Planning board approves site plan for South Park supermarket and pharmacy addition

The Lackawanna Planning and Development Board voted to approve a site-plan application for 3071–3085 South Park, clearing the way for an addition and refrigerated storage the applicant said will support a supermarket and pharmacy.

Applicant Zachary Alabadi described the submission as "the layout structural plan over here, in detail for you guys to see," and explained the addition would house refrigerated storage to increase purchasing power and lower costs for city residents. He told the board the pharmacy would continue to operate a drive-through and that delivery traffic would use the Kirby entrance while customer pharmacy access would remain at the front: "The pharmacy is gonna be the drive through," he said.

Board members questioned stormwater runoff, dumpster placement and egress. Committee member Jared Buckner asked whether runoff from the addition would go into a neighbor's yard or a sewer; the applicant said gutters would be installed and he would confirm sewer connections with the property owner. Planning staff asked the applicant’s architect to provide detailed drawings of the cooler and associated fire-flow/venting before final permits are issued. With no public opposition present, a motion to approve the site plan passed unanimously.

The board instructed the applicant to submit updated technical drawings and to complete the city business-registration steps at the clerk's office before final permits were issued.
