County commissioner praises County Road 37 completion, says land purchase did not use levy funds

"Jeanne Holland, Rake County Commissioner, and I wanna thank you," she said, and noted broad local interest in the opening. Holland described a recent interjurisdictional land purchase intended to host a substation and local public-safety presence. She said the county used funds previously held in its EDA account rather than property-tax levy money: "I just want it known that we did not use any levy money for this." The purchase, she said, also aims to provide space for sheriff's deputies and troopers and could host veteran services sooner than previously planned.
Holland also warned that state-level SNAP funding pressures are forcing levy increases for many counties and said her county is working to mitigate that impact. "Every levy point that we take off is 1000000 dollars," she said, arguing that unfunded state mandates are pushing jurisdictions to raise property taxes.
Holland named several partners in the work around the Costco site and related facilities planning and said officials are exploring ways to keep veterans' services local while reducing long transport times to distant facilities.
