City staff told the committee that the mid-June microburst and subsequent storms severely damaged trees across parks, estimating roughly 18–24 trees lost or heavily damaged in town properties including Haven Park, Langdon Park and the Wentworth Cemetery area.
Staff highlighted several large losses—oaks, sugar maples and pines—and said many remaining trees were significantly thinned or have structural defects. Members discussed cleanup priorities, the possibility of planting conifers and spruces in phase two, and improving monument visibility by pruning or removing undergrowth.
A representative of Friends of the South End said the group is fundraising to help rebuild the Point of Grace cemetery wall and is aiming to raise $300,000; staff said the city's new donation policy allows earmarked gifts through the city website and that community fundraising could likewise support park beautification or replacement plantings. The committee agreed to continue planning, coordinate with community groups and bring ideas to the next meetings.
