Council approves five-year plan to buy police body and squad cameras totaling $105,960

The Waterville City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 4 to approve a five-year purchase plan for body-worn and squad-camera equipment for the police department.
Chief Petrasek told the council the proposal would acquire hardware and software from Axon under a five-year payment plan totaling $105,960.00, including six body cams, squad cams and tasers, and that equipment would be upgraded midway and at the end of the contract. City Attorney Jason Moran said the purchase “is important for officer protection, evidence in prosecutions, data retention and aligns with industry standards,” and noted Waterville is currently the only agency in the county without the technology.
Administrator Teresa Hill said $20,000 of the plan is already budgeted for the January 2026 payment. Council approved the purchase in a motion by Tim Smith, seconded by Scott Potter; the motion carried 5-0.
