Lake Oswego fire department proposes $20.6 million bond to replace South Shore station

Assistant Fire Chief Christine Arman presented findings from a city task force and argued the South Shore Fire Station is outdated, has space and contamination-control deficiencies and is seismically vulnerable in living spaces. Arman said the city responded to about 5,100 calls last year, the department staffs every firefighter as a paramedic and that the station’s constrained apparatus bay and storage created operational risks.
Arman said study work, architect and CM/GC pre-planning support produced an estimated bond amount of $20,600,000, and noted a finance estimate of roughly $0.19 per $1,000 of assessed value ("about $114 a year for a $600,000 assessed value home"). She described proposed improvements — decontamination/ventilated PPE storage, larger apparatus bay to store a reserve truck and a brush truck for wildland response, and seismic upgrades — and said design could begin if the bond is adopted; if rejected, the station would remain in use as long as safe.
