Students from River Grove, Lakeridge and a middle school spoke to the board about health and resiliency programs, describing classroom community circles, monthly character trait recognition and counseling resources. A River Grove presenter said counselors run one-on-one and small-group supports; another student described daily morning circles as a place to "share my feelings" and build trust.
"Morning circle gives me a chance to share my feelings to the class," one student said while recounting the value of SEL in building trust and solving interpersonal problems. Lakeridge junior Ramona Tarlow described physical activity opportunities, no-cut sports, Link Crew mentoring for freshmen and annual one-on-one counselor meetings; she credited those programs with helping students connect socially and plan for the future. Board members thanked students for their candor and highlighted SEL as a goal the district has emphasized since elementary grades.
