Select Board adopts EMS transporting plan; department reports DEA compliance and new medication controls

The board considered and approved an EMS transporting service plan prepared to meet LD 245 and to be submitted to the Department of Public Safety. Mr. Booker presented the plan and described it as a formalization of existing operating practices that will be posted and submitted for data purposes. He told the board MaineHealth had recently stopped supplying controlled substances under their DEA registration, which led the town to secure its own DEA registration and medication-control systems. "Basically, LD 245 was in the hundred and 32nd legislator, and they are, sort of responsible for the Blue Ribbon Commission on EMS," he said, and added, "we are DEA compliant."

Booker said the department has implemented a Pyxis automated medication-dispensing system and a narc-ID system that exceed the rule requirements and should reduce administrative time; he also suggested modest security changes (signage, security doors) for bay doors and bunkroom access to avoid lapses when crews are out. The board voted to adopt the transporting plan and authorized staff to post and submit it; no schedule or budgetary impacts were specified in the transcript aside from implementation work already done to meet compliance requirements.
