Dan Welch, the new superintendent for Regional School Unit 40, introduced himself to the Waldoboro Select Board and said he has been on the job "since about July 1" and described his first six weeks as "a really good 6 weeks so far." He told the board he plans to prioritize community engagement and to meet residents across the district to learn "what the communities want out of their schools."
Welch said he sees the schools as belonging to the communities and emphasized collaboration with administrators, faculty and the board to deliver a "highly effective, high quality school system" while being responsible to taxpayers. "I look forward to learning a lot from people about what the communities want out of their schools," he said. The board did not take any action; Welch said he will be available to meet individually with board members and community members as needed.
