Public Works Director Michael Jaramillo presented a Memorandum of Agreement between the Village of Los Lunas and Los Lunas Schools to provide refuse removal services at all district school sites. Jaramillo said the MOA includes a modest rate increase based on the Consumer Price Index; staff noted residential and commercial collection rates had not been increased in about 15 years and rising landfill fees, fuel and operational expenses drove the adjustment.
Councilors asked whether the increase would fully recover operating costs; Jaramillo responded that the proposed adjustment would not fully recover costs but would help support the refuse collection program. The Council voted 4-0 to approve the MOA (moved Councilor Ortiz; seconded Councilor Romero).
