Sheriff announces Special Response Team and details July 27 shooting incident

County Judge/Executive Keith Taul and the Hardin County Fiscal Court heard an announcement from Sheriff Ward that the Sheriff's Office has established a Special Response Team (SRT) of ten deputies trained by retired SWAT leaders and former special operations personnel.
Sheriff Ward summarized a July 27, 2026, domestic incident at about 6:30 p.m. on Battle Drive (off KY 434). Deputies secured and treated a female gunshot victim and two children; Emergency Medical Services transported the adult to Baptist Health Hardin, where she was treated and released. Kentucky State Police assisted and, with the County Attorney's help, deputies obtained warrants. "The SRT executed a deliberate entry under a search warrant and located the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," Ward said. He emphasized interagency coordination among E-911, EMS and the Coroner and thanked the Fiscal Court for continued support.
The announcement framed the SRT as both a tactical and training initiative; Ward credited specialized instruction with helping deputies resolve a dangerous scene without injuries to deputies, troopers or additional civilians. The court received the report during the public-comment portion of the meeting and made no formal motion related to the SRT during this session.
