Manager says UGI main replacement and meter migration will be multi-year; borough to coordinate resident notifications

At the Feb. 17 meeting Hellertown Borough staff told council that UGI is planning a multi-year main replacement project on High Street and that the company is already distributing preliminary maps for work underway.
The borough manager said UGI has started mapping and that the plan changed from the first map the borough saw; he said UGI will be conducting meter migrations, moving indoor meters to outside locations, and that the borough must coordinate notification, paving and other impacts with the utility over the coming years. "UGI is going to be around for a long time, so we're trying to work with them about notification to the residents," the manager said. He committed to sharing UGI's current plan with council when available.
Council asked about permissions to cross railroad property for new lines in certain areas; staff noted that such crossings may require separate permissions and coordination with property owners and rail authorities.
