The Newport News City Council adopted ordinances on Aug. 11 authorizing leases of city-owned parcels in the Seafood Industrial Park. Council opened and closed public hearings for Parcel 3 (Tawangi's Fish Company Incorporated) and, with no speakers present, also approved leases for Parcel 7 (Tuwachee's Fish Company Incorporated) and Parcel 8 (C to Want 2 Fish Company Incorporated). Each motion to adopt the ordinances carried unanimously.
Mayor and council members thanked the Economic Development Authority staff for their work preparing the park for tenants, with council members noting anticipation that the leases will help activate the industrial park. "We're excited for this to get the parcels out and for us to really open this thing," the mayor said during discussion of one parcel.
