The Newport News City Council presented a framed resolution honoring Marty G. Eubanks for his long service as city treasurer and invited him to speak at the Aug. 11 meeting held at Christopher Newport University. Mayor opened the recognition, citing Eubanks' election as treasurer in 1997 and noting his retirement effective Jan. 1, 2026; the council read highlights of the resolution of appreciation.
Eubanks, who accepted the recognition, recounted his 41-year career in the treasurer's office and publicly thanked dispatchers, police, firefighters, paramedics and hospital staff who saved his life after a severe yellow-jacket incident last October. "I wanna thank that dispatcher... I wanna thank those police officers... and the paramedics for stabilizing me and saving my life," he said. The council gave Eubanks a standing acknowledgment and the meeting proceeded to scheduled business.
