Anna Shuster, Clinical Director of the Ellen O'Brien Gaiser Addiction Center, gave the Butler County Drug & Alcohol Advisory Board a rundown of the center’s treatment offerings, including separate inpatient programs for men and women and an intensive outpatient program on Liberty Street. She said the center staffs six counselors — three for each inpatient program — and includes trauma-certified counseling and psychiatry as needed.
Shuster highlighted targeted outpatient groups for women, noting one called "Responsible Decision Making" for people in early stages of change, and described a Center of Excellence outreach model where a certified recovery specialist (CRS) named Brent engages people not ready to enter treatment. "A recovery house for women and children called 'Ellen's House', providing 12 beds located in Butler, has been in operation a little over a year," Shuster said. She also noted that Dr. Brophy provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) through the outpatient program and that counselor George delivers MAT and group sessions inside Butler County Prison to maintain continuity of care for incarcerated individuals.
The presentation positioned the center as a local hub for a continuum of services — inpatient care, outpatient groups, peer recovery engagement and residential support for women and children — with continuing efforts to connect people leaving jail to treatment and recovery services.
