Assistant City Manager Jon Behrens announced that the Texas Panhandle Youth Sports Foundation donated $75,000 toward repair and replacement of lights at the Kent Johnson Baseball Complex fields after a June 2025 hailstorm damaged the site. Parks Director Brian Noel told the commission that insurance had previously paid to replace the lights themselves but that several poles remained structurally unsound and were removed for safety; the city lacked sufficient funds to replace the poles until the foundation’s gift.
Behrens said the gift will enable the city to move forward with replacing the four remaining poles and that the city plans to install a plaque memorializing the contribution. TPYSF President Casey Renner was present at the June 2 meeting to provide additional information and receive the commission’s thanks.
