Council raises motor-pool clothing allowance to $550, agrees to three iPad replacements and debates manager vehicle allowance

Councilmembers approved increasing the annual clothing allowance for employees assigned a uniform from $450 to $550 after Motor Pool Lead Mechanic Shawn Rasmussen said the allowance had not changed in about 20 years and no longer covered rising clothing costs. Rasmussen and Public Works Director Keith Despain said the change would better align allowances with actual expenses.
During the Mayor and Council budget discussion, staff and councilmembers also agreed to purchase approximately three replacement iPads (estimated slightly more than $1,000 each including accessories) rather than replacing all devices. City Manager Quinn Bennion proposed piloting a transition from a city-provided vehicle to a personal vehicle allowance and council discussion settled around a roughly $600-per-month allowance that would be revisited in the future.
