Vernal adopts new sponsorship application process, caps most awards at $1,000

The Vernal City Council adopted an amended sponsorship application and review process intended to reduce repeat funding requests made directly to council meetings. City Recorder Sara Bell said the administrative process would gather event descriptions, funding requests, financial disclosures and attendance history; incomplete applications would be returned once for correction, and administrators would score requests on economic impact, visitor attraction, community benefit and other factors.
Bell said standard administrative sponsorships would generally be considered for up to $1,000, while larger or unique requests could still be referred to the Council. The revised language also specifies that "Vernal City does not provide funding for charity fundraisers moving forward," and recipients would be required to submit post-event reports documenting attendance and use of city funds. Councilmember Randel Mills moved to adopt the amended application process and Councilmember Nick Porter seconded; the motion passed unanimously in roll call vote.
