Lorain County asks auditor to certify revenues for Children Services levy options ahead of November ballot

On June 30 the Board of Commissioners adopted resolutions asking the Lorain County Auditor to certify the total current tax valuation and the dollar amount of revenue that would be generated by proposed additional levies for Lorain County Children Services. Res. 26-383 amended an earlier request (.30 mill for five years) to place the measure on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot with collection beginning in calendar year 2027; Res. 26-384 seeks certification for .35, .40 and .45 mill options so the board can decide which proposal to submit.
Commissioners noted the levy funds would support essential services for abused, neglected and dependent children; the requested certifications are procedural steps required by R.C. 5705.03 so the board and voters can see projected revenue outcomes for each millage option. The motions passed with Commissioners Gallagher and Moore voting in favor and Commissioner Riddell recorded as absent‑excused for those votes.
