Council discusses water sourcing, Abilene contract and grant limits

Councilors raised concerns about local water supply and the town’s contract with Abilene, saying that although grant funds are available, the agreement language may not ensure immediate delivery of water.
Keith Collin reported the town is still under contract with Abilene and that they are "working on that." He said the council had sent offers and that prior administration arrangements mean the town may still be obligated to pay for the contract. Collin added that "The grant money is still there, but they it in the agreement, there's no guarantee that we can have the water," and noted that access depends on aquifer conditions.
Council members also said a state representative recently discussed options and potential funding, and they considered cost-cutting and other strategies to secure water access while pursuing paperwork and FEMA-related documentation.
