Pat Pruitt, chair of the Park Board, asked the City Council to support a phased revitalization of Buell Stevens Veterans Park. Pruitt said many residents do not realize the city maintains the veterans park and proposed phase one work that includes shrub cleanup, creation of veterans parking, and a rededication ceremony planned for Nov. 11, 2026.
Pruitt said several community organizations and citizens have offered support and potential funding assistance. She noted the park was originally dedicated in 1984 by then‑City Attorney Mick Howe, with representatives from the Office of Veterans Affairs present at that dedication. The Park Board will bring project details and phasing information to the Council as planning progresses.
