Council given extension to close out $40,000 DHCD grant
Summary

Town staff informed the council that the town had been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development but that annual reporting requirements had not been met since 2023.
"This was for $40,000 award ... you all owe $40,000," the administrator said when summarizing DHCD's request for documentation; staff immediately requested additional time and reported the agency agreed to extend the deadline through the end of August and will accept a single final report if it contains the required information.
Council members asked staff to compile payroll and vendor documentation so the final report can be prepared and submitted. Staff said they will use the 2024 audit working papers as a starting point for reconciling the grant and completing required paperwork.
Council asked that the administrator prioritize the DHCD closeout work alongside the larger ARPA reconciliation efforts.
