Oakwood says it will help relocate remaining residents, evaluate chapel artifacts for preservation

During the Plan Commission discussion of Oakwood Village University Woods, commissioners asked how the applicant would manage resident relocation and whether chapel features would be preserved.
Keith Van Landet of Oakwood said the applicant is working with a spiritual life committee and expects to meet with remaining residents to create both group and individual relocation plans. "There are 10 residents remaining," he said, adding the organization will assist residents who require higher levels of care and will coordinate relocation planning with the city.
On historic elements, the applicant said certain items — including a stone arch and stained glass pieces — are being evaluated by resident and project committees for possible incorporation into the new design or relocation elsewhere on campus. The Landmarks Commission already reviewed the buildings identified for demolition and found no historic value for those structures on July 20, allowing parts of the review to proceed administratively.
Commissioners said they wanted assurance that the applicant would follow through on relocation plans and document preservation decisions as part of final conditions. The commission's recommendation to Council included direction that the applicant coordinate with staff on resident transition plans and preservation assessment.
