The State Board of Elections authorized staff to conduct a testing campaign of ES&S's EBS 6.5 voting-system components to the 1.0 standard after staff told the board they are available and able to perform the tests.
An agency official explained the request from vendor ES&S, noted the board's current rules adopt a 1.1 standard but grants discretion to accept 1.0 applications with board approval, and asked for authorization "to conduct that testing program." Board members asked about logistics and whether board members could observe testing. Staff warned testing can be time-consuming: "it takes several weeks, if not months," and said staff is available to test to the standards.
The board moved and, after roll call, approved the testing. Staff said they will set testing dates with the vendor and advise board members who wish to observe.
