Deb Marco, a local resident, said most crashes on Chestnut Avenue have involved pedestrians and asked for details about crossings near Valley and Main Road by the school. "Most of the crashes on Chestnut Avenue have been pedestrian related," she said, and asked how the project will help pupils cross safely.
Project staff replied that crossings will be better marked, signals will be upgraded and the project will add lighting and rapid flashing beacons. "We'll have push buttons so that the children can can go across when the push button, shows on the symbol to walk," a presenter said, and staff noted they have coordinated with crossing guards and will consider dedicated pedestrian signal phases if pedestrian counts justify one.
