Board votes to enter executive session to discuss pending litigation under Open Meetings Act
Summary
Chair Watson moved and the board approved a motion (amended at general counsel's request) to go into executive session to discuss pending litigation and review prior executive-session minutes under sections 2(c)(11) and 2(c)(21) of the Open Meetings Act (5 ILCS 120).
Near the end of its June 17 meeting the State Board of Elections voted to enter executive session to discuss pending litigation and the minutes of its May 20, 2025 executive session. Chair Watson moved that the board enter executive session and cited statutory authority under the Open Meetings Act.
General Counsel Marnie requested a brief amendment to the motion to specify that the board would discuss pending litigation rather than legislation; the amendment was accepted and the motion passed on roll call.
The board paused to stop public live streams after adopting the motion and moved into the closed portion of the meeting per statute.
