Commissioners highlight regional transit plans, arts funding and summer meal programs

Commissioner Evans summarized Central Pines regional day, noting an RTP 3.0 presentation and public feedback sought on a proposed Triangle Mobility Hub near Highway 54 and RTP. "RTP 3.0, where the RTP is now going to be, changing what can be done with the land," Evans said, and invited commissioners and the public to review online materials and a survey. Commissioner Stallings highlighted the Health & Human Services Board’s recent actions including an optometrist reappointment and the county’s regional service centers intended to standardize services across locations.
Commissioner Waters described food-security work, explaining Sun Meals — a free summer meal program — and SunBooks summer EBT benefits; Waters said applications were open for organizations interested in serving as meal sites and noted efforts to ensure McKinney‑Vento families can access resources. Vice Chair Jackson announced Passage Home will update its logo and host an open house on March 19. Commissioners also flagged shelter capacity and funding challenges for Interact, describing needs for additional space and sustainable funding.
