State Board of Elections approves multiple campaign-disclosure settlements and appeal outcomes

The State Board of Elections on June 17 voted to accept staff recommendations on a series of campaign-disclosure settlement offers and appeals covering agenda items 2a1–2a17.
General Counsel Marnie began the section by noting there were no attendees in Chicago or Springfield on campaign-disclosure matters and proposed staff recommendations for several low-dollar settlements and appeals. For agenda items 2a1 and 2a2 counsel recommended rejecting the settlement offers; the board moved to follow that recommendation and approved the motion on roll call.
The board approved a $50 settlement offer in SBE v. People for Ayesha Pickett (agenda item 2a3) where counsel described the case as a low-dollar matter. "It is $50 to settle $85 in fines," General Counsel Marnie said, and the board accepted the committee's $50 offer. The board also approved additional low-dollar settlements for agenda items 2a4 and 2a5 and accepted hearing-officer recommendations to grant appeals for agenda items 2a6 and 2a7.
On multiple items staff recommended denial of appeals where committees failed to meet their burden. For agenda item 2a10, Marnie asked that the denial be supplemented on the record to state the reason: failure to prove the committee's defense; the board accepted that supplemented recommendation.
All motions cited above were adopted by roll call vote during the meeting. The board then moved on to orders entering assessments and additional administrative matters.
