Resident urges Wake County leaders to oppose proposed ICE office near Koka Booth Amphitheatre

Kathy Martin, a long-time Cary resident, used her public‑comment time to urge Wake County leaders to oppose a proposed ICE office that she says would be located next to the Koka Booth Amphitheatre.
Martin said she and other residents launched an online petition that had gathered about 1,300 responses, with 55% from Cary and roughly 31% from other parts of Wake County or the Triangle. She told the board that while local governments may have limited legal authority, they can exert political pressure: "You cannot absolutely you can absolutely put political pressure on these people," she said, and asked commissioners to "make a public statement, pass a resolution, speak to the leasing office." She left the board a printed packet of comments for review.
Martin asked officials not to "sit on your hands" and asked them to explore whatever steps were available to oppose the proposed lease. The board did not take action during the meeting on the matter; public-comment rules were reiterated at the start of the comment period and commissioners said they would not respond during the allotted public‑comment time.
