Wake County honors five longtime employees as commissioners mark community partnerships

The Wake County Board of Commissioners opened its Jan. 20 meeting by recognizing five county employees who are retiring between now and Feb. 1. County Manager David Ellis introduced the retirees and listed their roles and years of service.
"The first person we wanna recognize is Greg Terrell. He's retiring with 35 years of service," Ellis said, describing Terrell's work with foster care and supervised visitation. Ellis also highlighted Eleanor Wade's 33 years in public‑health outreach and immunization work and Bonnie (Vonnie) Anderson's role advancing the county's network infrastructure.
Ellis noted other honorees including Ken Ramboldt in General Services Administration and Gabriel Romero from the sheriff's office, and commissioners gave each retiree a round of applause. The board then received a follow‑on presentation recognizing Healing Transitions’ 15th anniversary; Emma Doss, director of development at Healing Transitions, said the program began after a 1993 task force on homelessness and credited county support for its founding.
"Healing Transitions started with you guys responding to an issue that you saw in the community and choosing to do something about it," Doss said. Long‑term recovery participant Daryl West described his own path to sobriety and thanked the county for its continuing support.
The recognition segment concluded with commissioners thanking staff and partners and moving the agenda forward.
