The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved an application (LPC 26‑04716) to modify a top‑floor window opening at 323 West 100th Street, converting the opening to a wider sliding door at the rear of the Renaissance Revival row house.
Owner and developer Hannah Khamai presented precedent photos and argued that similar rear‑floor alterations and additions already exist on adjacent row houses. She said the proposed conversion is not visible from any public thoroughfare. During remote comment, Megan Fitzpatrick for Landmark West said the committee found the modification appropriate but warned it "invites roof occupancy" and urged care with roof membrane detailing and user safety to avoid water infiltration.
Commissioners discussed precedent and visibility, found the work consistent with the building and block conditions, and recommended approval. Commissioner Convey read a motion finding the enlarged opening would not be visible from public thoroughfare and that the work would not detract from the building's character. The motion passed (8 in favor, none opposed, 1 abstention). The commission approved the change and directed the applicant to finish the roof membrane and structural measures as discussed.
