Disability services coordinator previews 28E partnership; full briefing scheduled next week

Renee Birkin, Jackson County's disability services coordinator, briefed the Board of Supervisors on Oct. 7 about a proposed 28E agreement to participate in the Disability Access Point (DAP). Birkin said the 28E would not alter eligibility for services but would provide a governance seat so county staff could better follow DAP activities and align local referrals.
"With the 28 e, there isn't really any decision making as far as, like, who you can serve and, how people are served," Birkin said, describing the agreement as largely advisory and informational. She asked the board to defer final approval until Julie from DAP attends a scheduled meeting next week to answer questions and present the organization's vision in more detail.
Supervisors agreed to add the item to next week's addendum so that the board can consider approval after Julie's presentation. Birkin said local staff have already been helping residents with benefit renewals and housing searches and that Julie's visit will focus on how the DAP and county could coordinate services more closely.
Next step: Julie (DAP) will attend next week's meeting for an in‑depth briefing; staff will place the 28E on the addendum for possible approval after that presentation.
