Board abandons Hoss Bowden Road, ownership to revert to adjoining owners

The Meriwether County Board voted on July 13 to abandon Hoss Bowden Road (also known as Pony Farm Road), a segment the staff said has little public use. Chairman Emmett Collins noted the item had been before the Board multiple times and moved to close the roadway; the motion carried unanimously.
County Attorney Nathan Lee advised commissioners that abandonment means ownership and maintenance responsibility would revert to adjoining property owners and that the County would no longer be responsible to spend taxpayer money on the roadway. Collins noted the road's bridge and long‑term overgrowth; the Board did not appropriate funds for clearing the road as part of the abandonment action.
