The Meriwether County Board of Commissioners on July 13 approved a hardship variance for Parcel 202‑023 at 6156 Cove Road, allowing the placement of a 1,140‑square‑foot residence where the county minimum is 1,375 square feet.
Lesley Parsley of the Planning and Zoning office presented Case PC26‑006 and said the request was driven by the applicant's financial hardship. Applicant Rodney Landrum told the Board, "I could not afford to build a home meeting the 1,375‑square‑foot minimum requirement but could afford a 1,140‑square‑foot home," and submitted medical documentation supporting his inability to work full time. Teresa Cannon, who identified herself as Landrum's sister, spoke in support and described his long work history and the change in his circumstances.
Chairman Emmett Collins, whose district includes the parcel, said he reviewed surrounding homes and noted similar sized dwellings nearby; Collins moved to approve the variance and the Board voted unanimously in favor. The approval permits the smaller home to be sited on the applicant's 3.7‑acre parcel under the hardship finding. No conditions or amendments to the motion were recorded.
