Firefighter and residents urge council to consider county resources, market impacts and stormwater

Glenn Smith, a former firefighter, urged the town not to purchase a gear washer and dryer for the Onancock Volunteer Fire Department because county equipment is available for use and other nearby departments already have washers: "Purchasing the washer and dryer is a duplication of services that the taxpayers don't need to pay for when the equipment is already avail easily available in the county" (Glenn Smith).
Business owners and residents offered contrasting views on the Queen Street market proposal. Dana Simpson, a downtown merchant, said Saturday markets benefit her business and worried that moving the market even a short block would reduce customer traffic. By contrast, Joe Devaney (adjacent property owner) asked for a more formal stakeholder and cost-benefit process and warned of stormwater runoff into local creeks.
Speakers asked council to be deliberate: several requested more public notice and a dedicated public hearing so both sides could be heard before any final action.
