Finance staff told the council that seven restaurants had previously been delinquent on remittance and that one particular restaurant had not submitted meals-tax payments for about a year. The manager described prior outreach — phone calls and two written letters — and asked council for authority to initiate civil collection: "If you would let me file a warrant in debt for this one restaurant" (Matt). Council approved the motion on a voice vote.
Officials said a warrant in debt is the first step in civil collection; if the judgment is not paid, the town could seek a lien on assets. The town attorney prepared the notice language and the manager will file the paperwork.
