Following his election, Jeff Hevner outlined several priorities he said the board will pursue and summarized what he described as a strong financial footing for Ocean Pines.
Hevner thanked predecessor John Latham and staff, saying the association has "retained earnings approaching $3,000,000" and "well funded reserves of around 6.4 million dollars," and that the association finished the last fiscal year with "around $450,000" in operating funds. He listed capital investments the board will consider in coming months: replacing the Southside Firehouse (built in 1980–81), renovating the Beach Club (built in 1971) and installing a new golf course irrigation system.
Hevner framed those projects as part of a longer-term strategic plan, and emphasized the association's recent recovery under staff leadership: "John Viola orchestrated a business plan that is nothing less than a heroic recovery period," he said. Hevner said he had "no personal agenda" and urged the board and staff to remain "steadfast and deliberate" in pursuing generational investments.
The board did not take immediate binding action on the projects during the meeting; Hevner's comments serve as a preview of priorities for the coming year.
