Council approves three-year Stryker maintenance agreement for fire equipment

South Ogden's City Council approved a three-year service agreement with Stryker Medical on Aug. 19 to cover maintenance, parts and extended-warranty service for key fire-department equipment.
Deputy Fire Chief Story described the package and its benefits: "By doing the 3 year contract, it gives us a 15% discount," and said the agreement covers annual maintenance, parts, labor and some battery replacements for devices such as gurneys, Lucas machines and life packs. Story added that equipment repairs without the contract have been costly and that the multi-year contract locks in pricing for the term.
Council members moved, seconded and approved Resolution 25-27. Staff said having the contract in place also ensures scheduled maintenance visits and that vendors will repair issues as they arise during the contract period, reducing unexpected repair costs.
The contract was presented as a cost-control and reliability measure for equipment that can cost tens of thousands of dollars per line item; staff cited examples where individual pieces approach $50,000 in replacement or repair costs.
