"No single community has made a bigger impact on the week of Camp Fantastic than Culpeper because we have a 100 over a 100 volunteers here who are just here for this 1 day," the presenter for Special Love said, praising the local turnout. The Rotary-supported event provided meal service, tents and organized activities for campers, organizers said.
Organizers described several volunteer roles, from activity leaders to hands-on counselors, and stressed that volunteers need not commit to the full week. A counselor who spoke about their experience said, "I was a camper for 9 years. This is actually my 7th year as a counselor," explaining that being a counselor lets former campers "make the camp magic possible" for the next generation.
Special Love representatives said many staff members are former campers who later entered human-services careers, and that volunteer time can range from a few hours to a full week. Organizers asked interested volunteers to visit speciallove.org for details and sign-up links.
