The Board paused its agenda to observe a moment of silence for former Trustee Sue Berglund and heard condolences from several trustees and village staff on July 27, 2026. Trustee Gayle Neal recalled speaking with Berglund shortly before her passing and offered sympathy to Berglund’s family; Trustee Michael Mistele and Trustee Gretchen Boerwinkle also expressed condolences.
Trustee Umberto Davi noted Berglund’s central role in arranging the research, construction and installation of a memorial at Prairie Trail Park commemorating the 78 victims and emergency response workers of the 1961 TWA Flight 529 disaster. Village Attorney Michael Durkin also extended condolences and reminded the Board of the evening’s executive session.
