Board adopts hearing officer recommendation for Matthews matter; one claim to proceed to public hearing

Board staff recommended that the complaint against Friends of Kathleen Lorenz be partially dismissed: the contribution-limit allegation under section 9-8.5 should be dismissed as not filed on justifiable grounds, while the claim under section 9-25 should proceed to a public hearing. The board moved, seconded and adopted that recommendation by roll call.
"If the board votes so to adopt the recommendation of the hearing officer and the general counsel to find that the complaint under section 9-8.5 for contribution limit violations was not filed on justifiable grounds and should be dismissed," the staff member said, but added that the section 9-25 claim "was filed on justifiable grounds and should proceed to a public hearing." The chair then called the roll, and after affirmative votes announced, "Motion passed."
