State election board rule will require paper numbered voter lists; Richmond County to train poll workers

Travis told the board that the state elections board voted in June to require a paper numbered list of voters at every poll-pad station in addition to electronic check-in. Under the new rule, poll workers will keep a running paper list (50 names per sheet) that will run throughout early voting and on election day; staff described the change as an extra check-and-balance to verify voter counts and said training will be provided.
"We no longer use paper, voter certificates, voter signs on the poll pad... Unfortunately, it was decided... that we wanted to go back to that method of doing a paper numbered list," Travis said. Elections staff will incorporate the new procedure into poll-worker training and attend regional sessions scheduled in the coming weeks to review details and voter-privacy implications.
