Resident asks Steger to clear her name after animal-investigation press release

Courtney Reynolds appeared during audience participation to complain that a recent press release about an investigation at a local property failed to mention her or her animal-rescue organization and, she said, left her name appearing derogatory. Reynolds said she had provided photos and videos and asked the village to publish a corrective statement clearing her and her rescue.

Reynolds said she had assisted Steger and neighboring police departments on animal calls and that police had not treated her work fairly in the release. She told the board, "I want my name cleared." Mayor Joyce replied that she had read the press release and would review relevant information and, if necessary, correct it; the mayor added she would meet with Police Chief Greg Smith and contact Reynolds to arrange a meeting. Chief Smith told the meeting that he had not heard disparaging remarks about Reynolds from department staff and said, "No." in response to the mayor's solicitation of comment, adding that both he and Reynolds share a passion for animals.

The minutes also note discussion of whether body-camera footage exists from a confrontation at the property; Mayor Joyce said she would investigate Reynolds' concerns and sit down with the chief.
