Board votes 5–0 not to accept late resignation of teacher Cassie Eicoff; member criticizes NSEA for hiring timing

The Board of Education voted 5–0 not to accept the resignation of high‑school English teacher Cassie Eicoff, which the administration said arrived Aug. 5, seven days before school started. Superintendent Jason Alexander said accepting the resignation at that time would leave roughly 160 students without an English teacher and that state statute and district policy make a late resignation difficult to manage; the chair warned that any discussion about personnel specifics would require executive session.

Board member Doris criticized the Nebraska State Education Association’s handling of the hire and transition, saying the district ‘‘received this employee's resignation late in the afternoon of August 5, just days before the beginning of a new school year’’ and asserting that an employer that advocates for professional treatment should model that standard when hiring. Other board members said they were not seeking to block the individual’s career opportunities but were concerned about transition planning and student impact. The motion not to accept the resignation passed 5–0.
