The board authorized purchase of a replacement bus for up to $225,000 to replace Bus No. 3, a 2013 Bluebird with approximately 122,642 miles and recurring mechanical issues. Superintendent Jason Alexander presented two vendor options: a Bluebird estimated at about $218,118 (approximately six months delivery) and a Thomas option described as slightly more expensive with roughly a one-year lead time; he recommended placing $100,000 down and financing the remainder with Pinnacle Bank at an indicated rate of about 5.35% for up to five years.
Board members approved the authorization after questions about trade-in value (administration said bus trade-in values are low and a well-kept vehicle might yield roughly $5,000) and the rationale for ordering now because of production lead times. The board's authorization included an upper limit ($225,000) to allow for configuration or option changes during final ordering.
