Residents urge forum and express safety concerns over Rossmoor Park pickleball courts

Resident Susan Kaplan asked that the board not rush an appointment and called for either a candidates Q&A or a special election so voters can decide who represents them. "How will the community have a voice in selecting the person who will fill the vacancy left by Mary Anne Remnay?" she asked, and urged the board to "not rush this appointment." Kaplan, who identified herself as a physician, described crowding and hazards around the courts and said "bleachers for pickleball will only increase the crowds, noise, and traffic impacts on the surrounding neighborhood." She proposed reducing four courts to two, sharing demand with Rush Park, shortening hours, using quieter balls, and restoring staff presence at the recreation building to enforce rules.
Other residents echoed the call for more direct community involvement. Robert Kaplan and several neighbors read emailed endorsements for particular candidates and reminded the board that the person appointed may immediately vote on the district budget. At least one commenter asked the board to delay appointment decisions until residents have chance to question candidates directly.
The board responded that the interviews and the budget hearing were scheduled to meet statutory and operational deadlines but acknowledged residents’ concerns; they proceeded with the interview schedule and public comments before beginning board deliberations.
