High school student urges council to recognize 'science history' and highlights student journal

During the public portion, Siri, a rising senior at Livingston High School, spoke to the council about science history and her student-led initiative Skire, which she described as an online journal that publishes student work on the history of science.
"Science history…is a field that many students never have the opportunity to explore or even know about," Siri said, urging the council to explore recognition for the field and to consider a science history day. She described Skire's work: more than 20 edited student articles, interviews with scientists, workshops for teens at the West Orange Public Library, and a partnership with the Science History Institute in Philadelphia to raise funds for educational initiatives.
Councilmembers asked about local activities and suggested the Livingston Public Library as a venue; Siri said the group hopes to host events locally and possibly request a proclamation recognizing science history in the future.
