Mayor John J. Lampl II introduced Mr. Straker, who was appointed under contract as the new Morrow Center Manager. Councilwoman Hue Nguyen congratulated "Mr. Benjamin Straker" on his appointment and also congratulated "Lieutenant Beth" on her promotion; minutes do not include Lieutenant Beth's full name or agency.
Councilman Wayne Collins addressed the status of tenants at the district and urged the Downtown Development Authority, the Urban Redevelopment Agency and city staff to finalize and enforce existing lease agreements so tenants begin paying rent. He said the city had given extended leniency and that it was time to collect revenue: "the city has provided sufficient grace and that it is time to operate the facilities as a government and collect the revenue." Councilwoman Labay said she would bring an issue about unauthorized keys found at the Angel Creek facility to the next meeting and reminded the public of the Tomato Sandwich event on Aug. 1. The minutes record these statements but do not include tenant names, delinquency amounts, or a timeline for enforcement.
