The police chief told the panel, “So 7 to 3 will be the standard.” Committee members pressed for clearer authorization procedures after citing prior automatic overtime payments; one member noted the scale of past payouts, saying the excess hours had produced “Almost a $100,000 last year.” The administration and police said overtime would now require sign-off through the superintendent’s office and emphasized a 30-day action plan to pilot the 7-to-3 schedule while retaining targeted overtime for the first two weeks of school for traffic and arrival/dismissal coverage. The subcommittee’s motion to refer the MOU to the Aug. 19 full committee meeting carried.
