Resident urges review after finding historic record that differs from South Miami designation

Akar said the Miami‑Dade preservation research she obtained indicates the house may date to 1912 (or, at the latest, 1916), while the South Miami designation report lists the house as built in 1935. "At the very latest, the house was built in 1916, definitely not 1935," she said. The commenter asked whether there is a formal procedure to appeal or review a designation before restoration work begins.
Board staff did not make an immediate change to the designation at the meeting; instead they offered to meet with Akar and review the designation reports and relevant code to determine the appropriate path forward and, if necessary, return to the board with recommendations.
