Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and community partners brought a health fair to the block by Morningstar Full Assembly Church on Washington Avenue in Tremont, delivering free screenings, nutrition workshops and a food distribution to neighborhood residents. Reporter Satrice Laqueen said hundreds of people attended.
A meeting participant described the event’s aim: "We wanna make sure that we brought the resources to the community, that they don't have to step outside of where they live," the participant said, adding that organizers wanted families to come together and learn. The fair included healthy cooking demonstrations, nutrition workshops and on-site resources intended to connect residents with local services.
Organizers and volunteers staffed around 20 tables offering information ranging from chronic disease management to recovery support. The event also featured a hands-on rock climbing course for attendees. According to the transcript, the organizers collected over 8 pounds of food to distribute with Morning Star Family Church and Gotham Food Pantry.
The fair was presented as a recurring outreach effort: the reporter said Anthem Health Fairs rotate locations every couple of months. The event’s organizers described the goal as reducing barriers to care by bringing services directly into the neighborhood.
